Home Sweet Home

Mc.Clintock.com is cool for at least four reasons: its visual design, its raison d'être, its CSS layout implementation, and its domain name.

On the first count, all I can say is go look at the line-drawings with which Matthew McClintock has rendered his entire house and its contents. Clean and lean. (He also designs way cool OS X icons.)

As for it's raison d'ętre, see his about page for his claim that the site began life as a test for Apache configurations — then PHP — and now CSS, I'd say.

Speaking of which, in recent iterations of the site, McClintock has been experimenting with on-the-fly layout changes using CSS. Not as super-intensive as some others (which I know Tim has been studying lately), but low-key and effective. (See also Nathan's recent posting on this subject and my comment there.) As Brad notes, "you can't win them all."

And finally, gotta love that creative domain name. McClintock.com (no period) itself is sadly wasted (a phenomenon dear to my heart), so Matthew has cleverly come up with the very next best thing. Three cheers.

Cool idea. I can't imagine where someone can come up with the time to do this.

Speaking of CSS layout. Checkout these sample layouts (http://www.bluerobot.com/web/layouts/) at bluerobot.com.

I finally got around to looking a this. I agree with Nathan - I only checked out a little of the kitchen and study, and was amazed at the detail of all of it. (I particularly enjoyed the guy's art: http://www.mc.clintock.com/first_floor/living_room/flatfiles/drawer_3/index.php.)
